Ahead of Schedule: First Yantai LNG Storage Tank Pile Foundation Completed

On February 25, 2021, a ceremony was held to mark the completion of the pile foundation of the first 200,000-cubic-meter liquefied natural gas (LNG) storage tank at the Yantai LNG receiving terminal. The pile foundation was completed on February 24, setting a record in China for the shortest construction period of a single LNG storage tank pile foundation. This is the second record set by the Yantai LNG project, after having set another record for the shortest time interval between EPC contract signing and first pile installation.

During this period, Yantai LNG contractors Harbin Electric International Co., Ltd. (HEI) and China Tianchen Engineering Co., Ltd. (TCC) overcame significant obstacles, including inclement weather, intermittent Covid-19 pandemic controls, and heavy pollution that suspended work for several days; despite these obstacles, HEI and TCC still completed the first pile foundation ahead of schedule. Completion of the other four 200,000-cubic-meter LNG storage tank pile foundations at the Yantai LNG receiving terminal is slated for the end of March 2021.
